Where do our animals come from?

One Love animals come to us through one of the following three ways:

1. Local city and county animal control/shelter partners
2. An owner who can no longer care for their pet reaches out and relinquishes the animal to us to care for until we can find it another home. This can be done via the Surrender form on our website.
3. A good Samaritan finds and turns in a stray/homeless animal. If no owner is located via a tag, microchip, online and physical found animal postings, after the mandatory waiting period, the animal will be adopted into One Love’s care and placed for adoption when eligible

What type of animals do we work with?

One Love works with all animals that are considered to be “household companions” – meaning dogs, cats, bird, reptiles and small mammals (rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, etc.) regardless of size, breed, medical or behavioral history or needs.

What happens to the animals we take in?

Most of the animals that come into the One Love are able to be adopted to loving families. Some animals are immediately available for adoption, while others must wait for medical or behavioral issues to be resolved prior to being adopted. Some animals, who are medically or behaviorally deemed unadoptable may spend the rest of their lives in foster or sanctuary care with us.

Are animals at One Love ever euthanized?

One Love is considered to be a “no-kill” rescue. All animals at One Love are able to stay for as long as is needed for them to find a forever home. Some animals who are deemed unadoptable for medical or behavioral reasons may gladly spend the rest of their natural life in our sanctuary. Animals are never euthanized due to lack of space, time or resources to accommodate their care. One Love only takes in animals that it has the resources to care for appropriately. Some animals, on rare occasion, may be euthanized humanely if they are deemed by a licensed veterinarian to be irredeemably sick or injured without a chance for positive quality of life even with extensive medical intervention.

Why don’t we have a physical location?

While we do have plans for building a facility for people to visit in the future, currently, One Love works based solely on our amazing network of foster homes. In order to keep costs down so that we can invest 100% of the funding we have directly into animal care, we do not have a physical location for potential adopters to come visit. Animal meet and greets are made by appointment only and are typically done in the adopter’s home so that if everything goes well and the adopter is prepared, the animal can stay there the same day to minimize the amount of movement and stress on the animal.

Where do the animals adoption fees go?

All animal adoption fees go directly towards animal care, primarily their veterinary exams and routine medical care. Adoption fees typically only cover a small portion of the expenses incurred by One Love Animal Rescue to get an animal ready for rehoming and we rely on other donation and funding sources to cover the difference. Any and all support you are able to provide is appreciated!
